Edward and Jane Ivinson and others from Laramie traveled to Chicago for the 1893 World Exposition, known as the World’s Fair. Learn about the souvenirs, photographs and other memorabilia stored at the Ivinson Mansion from this trip, and why the Laramie Plains Museum created an exhibit to showcase these historic items.

Sip 'n Savor History: In the Scent of Horses, Hay and Old Barns
Crafted from extensive interviews and set in eastern Wyoming, In the Scent of Horses, Hay, and Old Barns is Pamela Galbreath’s spirited biography of Eleanor Prince, who faced the hardships of ranching to realize her life-long goal of founding a horsemanship school unique to her belief in the power of communication between horse and rider. Still teaching in her 90s, she maintained that “I was nutty about horses and couldn’t see life any other way.”
Not just about horses, the book is, according to an unsolicited review, a “ground-up, grassroots, social history of an ordinary woman who transformed the lives of others through acts of love, courage, tenacity, and passion.”

Louisa Swain Day Celebration
On September 6, 1870, Louisa Swain was the first woman to vote on equal terms to a man after Wyoming, on December 10, 1869, became the first territory or state to pass a women’s suffrage law. The law also allowed women to hold public office, which was also a first for our nation.
Collage: Life in Layers with Tawni Shuler
In this hands-on workshop, participants will experiment with a variety of collage materials to create a layered and complex mixed-media drawing. No experience necessary. Ages 13+

Celebrate National Women’s Equality Day by wearing colors of women’s suffrage: white, yellow and purple. Stop by and visit us at Wyoming Women’s History House to learn how Wyoming granted women the right to vote and hold office in 1869 — more than 50 years before the rest of the nation’s women could vote!
